The iPhone packs some great hardware and an amazing ui but it's all show and no go. Sure it's nice that it supports html email but the beauty of a smart os like s60 is that you can install a simple app (profimail in this case) and have the functionality you're looking for.

WM is of course a better comparison. The ui is ok but in terms of functionality it's typically far less user-friendly than s60. I have a Touch and there are a lot of things I like about WM6 but on a daily carrier it becomes tiresome to me.

The bottom line is that everyone has their own opinion and there is no perfect os or mobile device. I only hope that you don't take your bad impressions of one "rotten apple" and form all of your opinions regarding s60. Have a play with an e61i or the new n95-3 and you might get a better idea of the capabilities and phenomenal usability of s60.

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

I don't believe anything Nokia says. Besides, even if Nokia finally fixes all the bugs and stablizes the phone, I still think S60 is far behind what the market currently has to offer. Symbian UI looks like it's been designed by programmers and not UI experts (being a programmer I can feel the un-friendliness of the OS). Besides all the bugs, there are basic functionalites I'd expect from a latest generation phone like HTML email (both iphone and WM6 support this).

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

Hang in a little longer if you can. According the Nokia discussion boards a firmware update for the E65 is finally being released in October.

http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions...

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

Well once you have a bad taste in your mouth, it's definitely hard to get it out. If I was having as much trouble as you with my first S60 device I'd be plenty pissed as well!

I only hope that once you're tired of the lack of functionality (Apple) and over complicated interfaces (WinMob) found in other smartphones, you come back to S60 and find a more stable device. :)

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

See this post:
http://n0comment.wordpress.com/2007/07/08/nokia...

E65 is a piece of s**t. Bye bye Nokia, I'm putting mine on eBay and never even considering a Symbian again.

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

Nokia has been focusing on their flagship phone, the N95. That might be the only good phone they have on the market right now, which is a shame for a company their size. The E65 bugs I've described can be confirmed on the Nokia discussion boards. It's nothing specific to my phone and I already had it replaced several times. I think Apple and even MS are doing a much better job, and I hope to see Symbian and Nokia go down for making such low quality phones.

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

That's really lame.

After years of Nokia S60, I chose Sony Ericsson Walkman "dumb" phone: small, beautiful, better battery, better features.

Open to enhancements = reminds me of all things Nokia leaves out. :-(

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

Very much agreed vebmetal. I will say that Nokia has spent a hell of a lot of money on new ad deals and whatnot so let's hope that we see some impact. It seems that they've all ready turned a small corner, but it's a long winding road ahead...

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

Yeah - sounds like a faulty piece.

Getting back to the topic - There are a few brands for which having bad advertising is a given. Nokia unfortunately is one of them. In India at least, ALL their ads push the 'style' and rarely do they touch on features. And when they do, it's usually just "2 Megapixel Camera" and that's it.

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

@Danny it's a shame that your having such a bad experience with your E65 but I can clearly understand your frustration! If I were you however, I would certainly take the phone back to wherever you purchased it and swap it out for a new one because it definitely sounds like you've got a lemon. I know many people with an E65 who aren't experiencing any of the issues you describe. I'd hate for a buggy unit to be your last impression of S60!

Have you tried a full reset btw?

Back up data, Power device off, hold [*] [3] [send] [power] until you see the Nokia hands welcome screen.

If that doesn't work you could try reflashing it but it's a PIA and you'd be much better-served swapping it out.

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

Nokia sucks, so does Symbian. I've got an E65 running almost the latest version of Symbian and that device is one of most buggiest electronic devices I've ever had. Phone resets, web browser crashing, contacts not dialing, loudspeaker stops functioning. I'm not talking about complex Internet applications or video streaming, I'm talking about basic functionalities you'd expect from a PHONE. I've confirmed all of my issues to be bugs and not hardware related. I've been restarting this phone more often than I would restart Windows 3.11. Unlimited potential? Nokia hasn't released firmware for my phone since it's out almost a year ago. My last Nokia phone ever.

Re: Bravo Nokia, You’re Getting the Idea

I totally agree! Please Nokia make Symbian or S60 a well known brand. I don't like hearing someone saying "My phone is like a computer. It runs Windows mobile." I would prefer people knowing they are running Symbian an be proud of that!
