Symbian in Motion: More N95 Accelerometer Love: Y-Inclinometer by Jukka

  • Elad · 2 years ago
The software is really great, but I'd love to see a program that keeps the small car on the screen parallel to the ground. I don't think anyone is going to use it while driving off road...
But it would be great if we could see how accurate this accelerometer really is.

Seeing as how I don't yet have my N95 I was wondering how often this program updates the screen. I know alot of what I do off roading changes the angle of the vehicle rapidly. If this only updates one a second or so its of limited use. If it ran at 30FPS or so, which I could easily see being possible, then it would be very useful.

Zach, not sure if you have it installed or not yet, or anyone else care to share this information?

Hey malaeum, thanks for the comment.

I've played with it a bit on my phone and it definitely updates pretty rapidly. Check out the video on Mark's site of the ball demo - it's about the same in terms of resposiveness.

The moving ball example seems to be more responsive and accurate to me. With this prog I think the readings when you tilt the phone to the left are different when you tilt to the right.

is this really n95 only? to bad :p would look quite nice on my e65
  • deejaysonic · 2 years ago
Wow ! - This is another revolutionary N95 feature to be uncovered !! What next, an inbuilt anti-grav sensor !!
  • zach · 2 years ago
@jeroen Unfortunately the E65 lacks an accelerometer so this app would be useless on it.

    @deejaysonic You mean your N95 didn't come with the anti-grav sensor??? ;)

    Zach, thanks for the response.

I just now wonder if developers are going to start making use of this feature in a meaningful way. Sure we see RotateMe kicking things off, and in a VERY useful way. I just wonder how many other apps can benefit from this feature w/o the developers going way out of their way to include it (not saying its hard to include, but rather to find a good use for it, and then limiting that function to the N95 only.)

I am getting a N95-8GB for Christmas, that is if I was a good boy this year. I would like to see it included in some more things, perhaps we as a community need to reach out to the developers with ideas we would find useful and present them to them as feature requests. One idea that comes to mind off hand is, admitidly stolen, to have one of the many multi-alarm programs to incorporate the "flip to silence an alarm" feature which many of us saw on the S60 TouchUI marketing video.

Perhaps I'll start a thread on HoFo and see if some of the fellas there can come up anything good, meanwhile suggestions here would be encouraged as well (at least by myself).

A thread on HoFo is a good idea but fewer developers will see it than you might think. A better idea would be to start the thread but make sure the good ideas hit the App wishlist on s60.com.

Also, we had a nice quick discussion over on this post on The Nokia Blog that you may want to take a look at.

@zach, Doh! bet your NOKLA is the touchscreen version as well :0)
  • zach · 2 years ago
lol No NokLa here - some of them are pretty cool though! heh ;)

wicked potential wouldn't this technology be useful as an electronic level for hanging pictures placing shelves etc.

Hell i'll try it for a laugh in my 4WD. It would be real good if you could zero it for say non level dash mounts. In my desk cradle it reads -4 roll and 22 pitch so it would be real good if i could tell the phone that was the new zero.

Other use is a clinometer for slope and angle on building sites.
  • zach · 2 years ago
Definitely good ideas speleokip - you should check out the app wishlist on s60.com and make some wishes :)

how to use n95 accelerometer? I already installed the file but i cant use it, for example, i want to play asphalt 3 by using accelerometer as my controller for directions. Help pls :(
  • Zach · 1 year ago
To do that you'll need to sign and install an app called NokMote by Samir. It's not out yet (unless you donate) but it should be released soon as freeware. Keep your eye on that page.
