I hope Google will ad this to Google Maps soon and also to it's mobile client. I've seen applications do this kind of location sharing like GPSed, where you don't even need a phone to see your friend's location, just a browser. This is nothing new, a good step by Nokia, but not in the right direction. They should have integrated the already existing chat applications like Gtalk, MSN, ICQ and so on, rather then creating their own. I don't see location sharing to be enough of a lure to have lots of people use this app.

Re: Nokia Beta Labs Releases Nokia Chat

You could do that with the Nokia Sports Tracker, leave it on and it should record where your phone has been.

Re: Nokia Beta Labs Releases Nokia Chat

Tommi, I've used it before and embedded the videos for the E71 and E66 announcements, but this time I just couldn't find a link for the embed code. Would be better if the code was easily visible, something like Youtube has?

Re: Nokia Beta Labs Releases Nokia Chat

There are lots to improve for the location based service, for now it doesn't seem to lock onto my signal tell users where I am. There is an option to let your contacts know where you are every 20 mins or so, but you can only choose locations from your Google Maps favourites, which I find strange.

Re: Nokia Beta Labs Releases Nokia Chat

Hey Abul, may I ask you a quick question? (I'll ask this from other bloggers too)

Why did you just link to Phil's video, instead of embedding it here?
1) I didn't realize you could embed it
2) I didn't know how to do it
3) I didn't find it worth embedding
4) Some other reason?

Re: Nokia Beta Labs Releases Nokia Chat

Well actually when I saw the news, i installed the application on my N95 .... I must admit that the integration with the contact list is interesting, however there is one detail that I do not like is to add my list of gmail's contacts(again) ... ok ok is a tool to be used with OVI but if could be more transparent i would be fine. Another point which I emphasize is how shows the location, it would be great not only depend on Nokia Maps, for example, what if I want to notify a gmail contact that I am at the Santiago Bernabeu, I can not :) I think the rest is an interesting approach, while still use Palringo!
