It
would be a complete reversal from the current perspective from what I know.
Last September I was speaking to "someone" deeply involved with S60 Touch
and I inquired as to why they weren't moving forward more with the OS in
terms of changes / innovation / etc. The response I got was basically that
they don't want to change. They're extremely confident (almost too
confident) with what they have and didn't want to stray too far...

Re: Nokia Wants to Free Symbian

I don't think it is that straightforward - IMO they are given sort of last chance, and yet... kept as separate asset (it doesn't matter, open- or closed source, public entity or private equity) - easy re-evaluate at any moment.

Re: Nokia Wants to Free Symbian

Heh - of course it's your personal opinion. My "ouch" was in response to "Open sourcing is new slang for ... slow downsizing on minimal costs". There are many people hoping this won't be the case with S60 I'm sure!

Re: Nokia Wants to Free Symbian

mita? I said this is _my_very_personal_opinion_without_any_intra_knowledge_ :))) didn't you see how ex-NET-now-NSN had been sent to make money on its own? what makes you thinking that Symbian is any better for those who merely counts money vs risks? :)

Re: Nokia Wants to Free Symbian

Ouch! ;)

Re: Nokia Wants to Free Symbian

(this is only MY opinion and it has nothing in common with whatever comes from my employer, directly or implicitly) - I tend to believe that Symbian won't be S60, and open sourcing it is not about pushing it to the future. But whether or not it will be fully open is still open to debate. I guess we'll just have to trust Nokia on this and hope they move Symbian (which will probably become S60) forward for the good of the consumers.

Re: Nokia Wants to Free Symbian

Nice!!!! man i always thought that these Uiq symbian parts where just loose ends.....looks like its gonna be all nokia's now!!! man imagine like 10 years from now....the innovation symbian will probably go through....
