Psiloc Connect on the other hand, becomes an AP accessible to all apps on your handset. It connects via the fastest available means at the point in time that an app calls for data, and then disconnects when it is no longer needed.
Also I wish Psiloc would find another method of protecting their software, there DRM solution is well known for causing issues, such as extended device boot up time. On my E51 it also causes a Kern-3 error everytime I reboot.
Future devices from Nokia should have something like this as standard, early E-Series device, such as E50, E60 did as I remember, why it was never added to N and more recent E series devices I don't know.
That being said, Devicescape's best feature is automated hotspot logins, so you don't need to waste time inputting user/pass into a web form when trying to get a page in line at Starbucks, let's say. Psiloc does not appear to support this.
Because 'ratkat' is absolutely right! Psiloc does make some nice software, but their DRM copy protection is running 24/7 and this is a BAD thing. Slowing down the boot time, using cpu resources constantly and crashing the phone, from time to time. They really need to rethink this or it will kill them.
I have paid for two pieces of soft from Psiloc before I found out that it was their DRM that thrashed my device, so I never ever used this paid for software.
Besides destroying the devices the DRM is installed on, it isn't very effective. Cracks can be found everywhere, so it's not like it's more effective that what the other software companies are doing, it just destroys their product.
Come on, Psiloc, wake up!
Anyone else tried this with Mail for Exchange? As far as i know this does not work. The Nokia E61 has a similiar function built in, you can form a connection point group with several connection points - however, these groups also do not work with Mail for Exchange.
I am not using Connect for the moment, I'm waiting the annoucement of E71 and if dissappointed I will fall back to E51 to replace my E50...
By the way, what is that thing about E50 handling DRM better than newer phones ?? Can someone give some explanations, details ?
Works a treat with M4E. Phone was in a 3G only area all day yesterday and my email continued to arrive. At work or home email comes in on WIFI.
Before Connect i used Devicescape as my AP with all my WIFI hotspots on my Devicescape account. I had no other WIFI access points on my phone. After installing connect i found it treats Devisescape as an AP and if you are in one of your hotspot areas it connects via WIFI. To check this i scanned for WIFI at home and had to input my home WEP key before i could connect.
In short keep devicescape enabled and use Connect as you access point and you should have the perfect connection, i.e all your WIFI hotspots and 3G when it's needed.
HOW COOL??????????????
KERN-EXEC 3" after installing Connect? My phone is N95-3.
I also have a N95-3 and I have been getting this error message at random moments too ever since installing Connect. Sometimes the message pops up when I'm not even using my phone.
I have also found another problem. Could someone try to recreate this to see if it's just happening to me? Make sure you are in range of your wifi connection and follow these steps:
1) Open your browser
2) Go to Options > Settings > General and change your Access Point to "Always ask"
3) Close browser and reopen it
4) Select "Psiloc Connect" as your access point
It should connect via your wifi connection. Now, follow those steps again and change your access point from "Always ask" to "Psiloc Connect". Close and restart your browser. Instead of Psiloc Connect finding my wifi, it defaults to my 3G connection every time. What's wrong here? Is anyone else having this problem?
For example, make sure you are in range of your wifi connection and follow these steps:
1) Open your browser
2) Go to Options > Settings > General
3) Change your access point to "Always Ask"
4) Close and restart your browser and select "Psiloc Connect" as your access point
You should connect to the internet via your wifi connection. Now select Options > Settings > General and this time change your default access point from "Always ask" to "Psiloc Connect". Close and restart your browser again. Does anyone else notice that instead of connecting via wifi, you are now defaulted to your 3G connection?
I have tried to contact Psiloc regarding this issue days ago, via their support email, but they have not responded at all.
Zach, any ideas?
BTW, I'm using a N95-3.
Router Settings (if it matters):
SSID broadcast disabled
WPA2 Personal Encryption
Phone:
Nokia N95-3
Firmware Version 11.2.009 (RM-160)
Router:
Linksys WRT54GS
Firmware Version: 7.50.5
Software:
Psiloc Connect Licensed Version 1.05
Using the same version as yours, but on a N95-1 with FW 21.0.016 and an open (MAC filtered) access point.
However I have another problem:
When starting Nokia Maps 2.0 I get the following error:
application closed: PosServer KERN-EXEC 3
It seems I'm not alone:

Several of us have also written Psiloc support - but no reply yet :-(

So for me (N95-3), Psiloc Connect works with SSID broadcasts disabled ONLY when your application prompts you to choose which AP to use every time the app starts. Configure your app to always use Connect as your AP and you're out of luck.

Will try to update from within the app. just to be sure I have the latest version.
I've heard of a system called UMA (I'm not sure of the acronym, but I hope I got it right) that constantly searches for WIFI and switches automatically to VOIP if that is available. This is mainly for voice calls, but I guess it works with all apps. Providers are not too happy about this since if you use free WFIF, that's money out of their pockets, but as I heard Nokia is determined to put it in their handsets.
I was wondering if Connect is a forerunner for this system?
Zach do you know something about this?

not supported by S60 at the moment unfortunately.
Spamming comment sections is never desirable but if you are going to go that route and some people actually try your app to compare it to Psiloc Connect, they are going to be sorely disappointed. The fact of the matter is WeFi does not have the core functionality that makes Psiloc Connect great - the ability to connect via 3G/EDGE in the event that WiFi is not available. If WeFi does have this capability then the copy on your site is terrible.
So I would highly recommend that you examine your PR plan and move away from spamming. It casts a terrible shadow over your company and product. If you had simply contacted me here or at BGR, I would have likely posted about your app and given you valuable coverage. Now instead, you have two spam comments and only my reply to show for it.
thanks,
