Symbian in Motion: SMS Chat by Symbianwave (Threaded SMS and More!)

  • chris · 2 years ago
cool app. Just tried it out on my Nokia E90. However, it's not really integrated with the phone at all. Messages->Inbox goes to the normal text messaging inbox, and I have an active standby shortcut key mapped to "New SMS" which just takes me to the built in text message composition. It's a nice effort but falls short of truly being integrated. Also, if you start the composition of a message (through SMSChat) there is no way to cancel the message? Only option is to send it.

Okay, nevermind, I saw you can cancel the message, just wasn't intuitive.

Right chris, my guess is that Symbian wouldn't allow a developer to disable that pop up. After a bit of usage and a reboot, I find that the SMS Chat message delays properly so that it appears in front of the defaultpop up about 95% of the time. Hitting Exit on the other 5% isn't a big deal for me as I enjoy the app a great deal. :)

    hey Zach,
Nice app, but for me (atleast on N73) is showed a lot of shortcomings!
firstly, it doesnt delay the popup notifying me of new msg (but as you pointed out, hitting exit key on "new msg" isnt thats big a problem)
then for some reason, it doesnt display my conversations properly, it shows the conversation till i am currently in the process of conversing, but once i come out of the app, or go and write another msg to different sender, the previous conversation just disappears, even if i go to "options > Open Chat" it just shows me blank screen with that persons name on screen, as if that is the 1st time i am sending the msg to that person!
are these problem my phone specific or they are present in all S60V3 devices?

So if you click on People and select the contact again it's still blank?

I definitely haven't had any of the problems you've mentioned. Anyone else?

You should certainly contact their customer support because while this app isn't perfect, it's definitely the best option we have for S60 3rd right now...

I dont have to select from "People" as i have the list whom i recently chatted with right below "people" icon, so i just click on that, and ir gives me 2 options "New messege" and "open chat" with either of them, the app presents me with a black screen! i mean the screen with the person's name and phone no.!

On the main screen try Options -> Clear last contact. Then add one again by clicking on new people. Maybe there was a glitch and this should force the app to reread from the messaging db.

Cracked version of smschat indeed doesn't show conversation. This is known issue. But if you have an official version it is worth to contact author, i hear they alwasy fix the problems.

Ah - Well then it's probably a good idea to use the full version... ;)

Looks great but there's no way of navigating through a conversation history on a 5800 as there's no left or right keys! If anyone knows a way round that then please let me know...
