Symbian in Motion: TimeBar by the3sky

This app truly looks amazing. I have to try it.
Our Chinese friend really knows what applications an S60 user will benefit from and I sincerely feel that these freeware apps are more useful than most paid ones around.

Got this installed and all is well, good little app,i like it.

    SHUT UP! That's awesome!!!

The day before I heard about FP2, I wondered, "How hard would it be to just...display the time on the top bar of the s60 menu, no matter what application I'm running?"

Forget FP2, this is all I need...well, unless FP2 has more than 20mb of RAM available. :)

    lol @ JonnyBruha

You mean you're not rushing to the store the day FP2 devices are released to get yourself some widgets?? ;)

No I'm actually highly anticipating FP2 devices and hope they come out with some nice offerings SPECIFICALLY FOR THE US!

Is there an unrar'ed version posted anywhere?
  • zach · 2 years ago
I don't have the files on me now but you can simply download winrar for free and open the file supplied.
  • JonnyBruha · 2 years ago
Not particularly. I certainly hope I don't have to spend another $500+ dollars on a new phone for at least another 6 months.

I ended up uninstalling this app. It's a great idea, but the transparent background didn't work out so well, it looked out of place on certain menus, and it didn't adjust very well in landscape mode. :( I was hoping for something a bit more integrated, which may be where FP2 comes in.

zach thanks for this post...I like this app. On my N73 I noticed this bug; it never keeps in sync with the system clock. It seems it follows its own internal clock. So if you have enabled the digital clock on your phone, you will most probably see two different times.
Hope this gets solved in future version ;-)
  • zach · 2 years ago
Lol you're right! I never use the digital clock so I didn't notice... :)

There's a new build that I'll download and test later today. It has a bunch of bug fixes and hopefully this is one of them!

    Timebar Version 1.3 build 0614

    2 questions:

    1. Has anyone got the English hour alarm to work? I have an E62 and while I can play the .mp3 files via the MP3 player, but they don't play inside TimeBar. The Tone hourly alarm works fine. I've tried both locations (C:\data\sounds\TimeBar and E:\sounds\TimeBar) to no avail.

    2. Any way to change the Time display to 12hr instead of 24hr? The time displayed by the Nokia itself is in 12hr format.

    Thanks in advance.

FYI - The newest build as of today (v1.3 build 0615) does not fix the bug mentioned by hardeep. The time is still off by about 30 seconds...

    @John

    1. I haven't yet tried the hourly alarm as I wouldn't want to enable it (it would wake me up!). If you don't rename the files it should work though. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

    2. As of now there isn't. A lot of people want it though! I sent an email to the developer but I don't know if he speaks English to read my request! Anyone know Chinese?? :)

Where does one get v1.3 build 0615? The link above still goes to 0614

    @John
I'm facing the same problem you mentioned in point #1 on my N73. The corect mp3 file plays when I choose Timebar->Options->Play but none play automatically :-(

Don't know whether the latest version that Zach mentioned fixes it or not...
  • zach · 2 years ago
OK guys, the link in the post has been updated with build 0615. The first pop-up during installation still says 0614 but it's just due to a compilation error (you'll see the new build number in About). Hope the update helps with the above as I haven't noticed any changes!

I know I shouldn't post something like this here but I'm running a GNU/Linux machine so I can't sign the app myself, even if I wanted to (thanks Nokia...).
Could someone please post a link with his signed version of this application ?
  • zach · 2 years ago
Hey Merlin, it is too bad that there's no Linux love from Nokia! Unfortunately there is no signed version of this app - it must be signed individually for each device that you install it on.

Why don't you send me an email to discuss
  • Hardeep · 2 years ago
Thanks zach for uploading the new version. The time sync problem still remains. One major change is there...this version no longer supports mp3, only wav format is supported and the good news is that the hourly announcements work now :-)
I'm using my own wav files (11 kHz, 16 Bit, Mono) and they sound great on my N73 ME.

If you don't want to be disturbed during the night, simply delete the wav files for those hours.
  • zach · 2 years ago
(Zach wonders why he didn't think of that...) ;)

Good suggestion Hardeep, ty. I guess the app had issues with MP3 but glad to hear the new build resolves it.

FYI - I have confirmation from the author that the next version will include 12-hour format support! :) Will post the update here once available...

I'd like to install TimeBar but cannot sign it (everybody knows about the problem with www.symbiansigned.com).
If some good guy could register it, my IMEI is [snipped] and I've a Nokia N73.
Thanks in advance, carrozza at freemail dot it
  • zach · 2 years ago
Sorry Carrozza, but in order for anyone to get a dev cert with your IMEI it must be created on Symbian Signed. As you can see in my recent post, this is no longer an option unfortunately.

Also, please do not post your IMEI number in public.

OK, I have an E62 and I figured out how to make the voice files work. First I installed the TimeBar_v1.3_b0615.rar ( Ftp://itybity.homeftp.net\cell phone_software\timebar_v1.3_b0615.rar )I copied the mp3 files to my data card D:\sounds\timebar....then I installed the newest version...and presto, everything works just fine.

You can find both versions, including MP3 voice files.
Plus theres some extra junk in there..feel free to browse..lol

Thanks for the post itybity. :) Glad you got everything working!

vit will automatically plays an alarm sound each hour (either a tone with adjustable length and frequency, or from a series of audio files in MP3 format) when the alarm function is enabled. MP3 files can be custom made or from one of the included sound packs that have been delivered with the app (English and Chinese).
