Symbian in Motion: Tips & Tricks: Accessing Hidden Apps (Navigator, Landmarks, etc)

Great trick :) so the same could be done with a freeware task manager: http://www.pushl.com/taskspy/

Absoultely David, good point. I simply prefer Best Taskman and I didn't want to get into the signing process. Thanks for the comment :)

On my Nokia E60 I can choose these applications from the menu.

these can also be found in the list of apps for the active standby, atleast on my N73 shows landmarks there.

Great! So we confirmation that as I suspected these apps are available for certain regions/models and not others. What regions are you guys in if you don't mind me asking? Thx

I don't mind telling you that I'm from Finland. :)
  • zach · 2 years ago
A ha! Well of course they wouldn't hide anything from you! ;)
  • R2 · 2 years ago
Actually they did hide it from me, it is a hidden app, TaskSpy doesn't show it listed but Best Taskman does.
The point with my first comment was to tell that it can be found without any third party apps just by using the Active Standby.
But my phone only has the Landmarks app, the other 2 you mentioned are missing.
But landmarks is actually the only one of those that I use because the smart2go app uses it too.

Even more odd that some apps are available in active standby to certain regions and not others...

Can I ask what theme that is? It looks very nice!
  • zach · 2 years ago
    Thanks Twice :)

It's a new theme that I'm working on but it's not finished yet. I'll post a link once it's done.

    Hi,

I've got a Nokia N73 from 3 (UK). It has Landmarks but not Navigator or Positioning in both Best Taskman and the Active Standby buttons (i'd never noticed it in there until I read this though!).

Wonder why I have one and not the others..

If it's available in Active Standby, is there any way of adding it to the normal applications menu?

    Thanks

    Ian

As of now, there's no way to add Landmarks to any other menu. Hopefully once Smart Settings is released we'll have easier access to it.

    :)

For the record, I have them showing by default on my E62 from Rogers Wireless in Canada. For some reason they're buried in the "Tools" menu, however....

Off-topic: What theme are you using in these pictures?
  • zach · 2 years ago
    No problem :)

    It's the Brushed Green Theme

Much interested in the above topic.
However, have tried to install Best Taskman trough PC Suite and got an error message "installation of best_taskman60.sis not supported".
    Any ideas? Thnx

    Hey Yan :)

It looks like you might be trying to install the S60 version instead of the S60 3rd version. Give this version a try.
