VoiceMode by VoiceSignal - You Talk, VoiceMode Types

Started by Zach · 1 year ago

Last week I gave you a first look at a brand new (to S60) app called Adaptxt that provides a much-improved text input method to S60 3rd users. I’m 100% hooked on Adaptxt and really don’t know how I got along without it. Today however, I want to show you another alternative that is […] ... Continue reading »

  • Hi Zach,
thanks for the review, I didn't know this application before. However, I still think Adaptxt is 10 times more useful than VoiceMode for text messages and the reason is that unlike writing an email the contexts where I write a text are when:
    * I'm doing something else as well (and start speaking would interrupt that task)
    * I cannot talk (e.g. meeting)
    Just my 2 cents.

    Regards,
    Reda
  • @Reda Thanks for your comment. Different users have different needs but I would agree with you that Adaptxt is more important to me. In my eyes they are very different but both useful. Adaptxt is a replacement for T9 - a much better way to manually input text on your device. On the other hand there are many situations where VoiceMode is much more convenient. For example, dictating an SMS/email using VoiceMode is infinitely safer than any alternative.

I would never leave VoiceMode enabled all of the time as I do with Adaptxt. That is the reason I wish the app had a hotkey shortcut to easily anable/disable it. Launching the settings app with SkyeQuiKey is easy, but a hotkey would be easier.
  • this sounds cool im gonna have to try it out. i can see this coming in handy while driving.
  • Nice blog. Ugly black background. Smallish font. Awfully faint foreground color. Impossible to read.
  • Thanks for the comments @Ariel - hopefully some day I'll have the time to find a nice new theme. In the meantime I hope my feed in your reader of choice does the trick!
  • @ariel, its about the content baby ;) and that content is highly appreciated! also I think the gray background and lightgreay letters are quite easy to read. ariel might consider another monitor ;)
  • Beware, this App uses feedback to main system via Internet, and is Data hungry!
  • Thanks @jeroen! :)

It actually looks pretty good on my monitor but I can see how it might not be good for everyone. Maybe I'll hold a design contest... ;)

@Andrew Thanks for the note! My data connection is always live so I hadn't even noticed.
  • When I tried this application on my E61, instead of typing the words, it was matching phone numbers in my contact list and dialing the phone number! How do I fix this? Any ideas? I tried to turn off the voice aid, but that did not help.
  • hi zach, about this app.. I can't find any trial download link on their website. I might be doing something wrong, but I hope I can try the app before considering a paycheck :).
  • @Santosh You should definitely email VoiceSignal about this error.

@jeroen Unfortunately there's no trial version that I can find... :(
  • Cool web 4 symbian ! Hope u have more nice software to recommend !
  • Well into Feb-08 and there is still no sign of a British English edition for the N95.

Is there anything going on in the background with this product being bought/sold or something ?
  • @Ian There most certainly is a British English version! I wish you had commented sooner... Check it out
  • Sadly not so - That's the link I keep checking - see the last sentence of para 2:

"Please note that the British English version is not currently available for Nokia N95."
  • How lame! Too bad there's not a trial to test the current version... My only suggestion is to email them. Maybe they'll give you a beta version. Crazy that it doesn't support Nokia's most popular handset of late!
  • Is there a trial download for this application?
  • Not that I know of unfortunately.
